I think "mum" is just another word for "quiet", not a reference to mother. I could be mistaken. I'll check when I get home.

I can imagine being called English is a sore point for the Welsh in the same way that Canadians in Europe are always asked if they're American. Or people from Tuva are always being called Mongolians. Such is life.

Did anyone see the study released the other day that puts worth that the welsh/celts really were the indigenous peoples of britain & everyone else came over after the roman empire fell apart. it was based on genetics with most anglo-saxon population having the same genetics as continental europeans but the welsh were different.

Yeah, the Welsh are really the only indigenous people to my island. The Anglo-Saxons get their names from two Germanic tribes, which is a bit of a giveaway. The Celts are from Ireland, and they overran the Picts, who were Scotland's native tribe. It all gets very confusing.
